Laura

Laura is about a little girl looking for her dad who was taken to a concentration camp on Terceira Island in the Azores, during WWI in Portugal.

It’s a game to discover the landscape and beauty of the Azores, while interacting with the environment: help Laura find her dad, play with animals and search for plants to had to the herbarium.

Awards: Laura won the PlayStation Talents’ Best Children’s Game Award in 2021.

Process: Concept Art and Game Design

Concept made using Photoshop.
3D modeling made using Maya.
The game was made in Lisbon during quarantine, and unfortunatly the team couldn’t go to Terceira, in Azores, to do on-site reasearch. So we leaned on photos, videos, and books to capture that unique Azorean atmosfere: foggy air, soft green hills, and dark volcanic rock everywhere, in the land, in the walls, in the streets. A place full of contrasts.

When we finally were able to travel, we showed the game at the Museu de Angra do Heroísmo, in Terceira, and we were very happy to hear the locals say we’d gotten the feeling of the islands just right.
