Matilde Albuquerque

Matilde is an Animator, Motion Designer and Game Designer, based in Lisbon.

With a background in Communication Design and Illustration, she always had a passion for color, characters, and history. Her work delves into culture, comedy, and nature. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, writing and immersing herself in all things music nerds do.


In 2020 she won the PlayStation® Talents’ Best Art Award for her game CARETO and the next year, in 2021, she won the PlayStation® Talents’ Best Children’s Game Award for her game Laura. Recently, she has worked with high profile clients, such as Netflix and Ernst & Young.

Her first videogame CARETO was launched in 2023 and is displayed in the museum Casa do Careto, in Podence.

Alongside her creative work, Matilde teaches Animation, Drawing, Character Design, and Special Effects at EPI – Escola Profissional de Imagem, where she also leads the Animation department as its Pedagogical Coordinator.

A game based on a Portuguese northern folklore. CARETO is a single-player puzzle-platformer about a centuries-old Portuguese Carnival. Caretos are creatures of a mysterious Carnival from a village in the north of Portugal. It celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The game won Best Art Award for PlayStation® Talents Portugal 2020.

A game about a little girl looking for her dad who was taken to a concentration camp on Terceira Island in the Azores, during WWI. Laura is a single-player top-down, stealth single-player 3D about WWI in the Azores. It’s a game also to discover the landscape and beauty of the Azores, while interacting with the environment: play with animals and search for plants. The game won Best Children’s Game Award for PlayStation® Talents Portugal 2021.

I’ve been working as a motion designer with Wello for Ernst & Young since 2019, creating motion graphics for podcast intros, infographics, Christmas cards, and the EY Entrepreneur of the Year gala. But the highlight every year is crafting the motion piece for Nos Alive.
